About HONG KONG

Hong Kong is one of the two Special Administrative Regions of the People's Republic of China, the other being Macau. It is situated on China's south coast and enclosed by the Pearl River Delta and South China Sea. It is well known for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour. With a population of seven million people, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in the world.

Language

 

Cantonese is a common language in Hong Kong. Most of the hotel staffs in Hong Kong can speak English. Yet, visitors cannot count on communicating in English with people they meet outside of tourist facilities. It’s advisable to have addresses or instructions written in Chinese to show to taxi drivers.

Public Transport

 

Hong Kong has an excellent public transport system that is considered one of the best in the world. Depending on where you are going, you have a choice of MTR (subway), trains, buses, trams, ferries and taxis.

 

These clean and efficient options cover extensive areas of Hong Kong and have signs and announcements in both English and Chinese.

 

Visa

 

There are 3 different types of Visa requirements for Hong Kong:

  • Countries which a pre-arrival visa is required

  • Countries which have at least 7-day visa-free period

  • Holders of specific documents: he/she will not need a visa to enter Hong Kong

Weather

 

Hong Kong is a popular travel destination year round. The city enjoys a mild climate from the middle of September to the end of February, while the weather from May to mid-September can be hot, wet and humid, with August being the wettest month.
